Slowing time…

Kaffee house 家。啡 has no mobile reception. Just a simple village house, with nostalgic furniture that has stopped in time……

Perfect, for Hong Kongers who are weary and finding life, especially happenings of the past weeks coming on all too much.

Just come here, for a perfect coffee, a perfect crossiant.. but more, to slow time….

Beautifully distanced cafe

With the Wuhan Coronavirus ravaging everywhere on Earth, eateries everywhere have put in place restrictions. Limited seating, distanced tables, staff wearing masks, etc. In Hong Kong, small cafes have to put up dividers…

Well, so did 只 Zi. But instead of its decor being ruined, the dividers put up have made it so beautiful… Large grey curtains, fairy lights and draped with dried flowers and fauna, every table sits within its own magical place… Almost like an indoor Alice-in-Wonderland cubby hole!

Complimented by it’s beautiful coffees and machas, pastas and savoury foods… What a beautiful place this is… 😊

Neighbourhood good eats

Nothing spectacular about this restaurant. Just a run of the mill Hong Kong restaurant serving everyday fare, at average prices.

Yet, that’s what we all need around the neighborhood, right? This restaurant had the additional compliment of having a conscious and being friendly to pro-democracy protestors in Hong Kong who happen to seek shelter in their restaurant.

Just a conscience, and that’s gold: Restaurant: 永發廚房 Wing Fat

Chicken Rice!

OK 德海南雞飯, there are 2 in Tseung Kwan O. The one in Po Lam (which I went to) is definitely the better one, so don’t go to the wrong one!

The Chicken was silky smooth, texture like a fish fillet but “chicken-meat-flavourful”! Vietnamese spring rolls were nice and crunchy, topped with a fried egg and dark soy sauce, yum!

Afternoon tea set with drinks for around HK$50! Great deal!

Tseung Kwan O Taiwanese

Eating out but staying close to home for Mother’s Day, 戀上台式料理 First Love Taiwanese was a good choice, right beside the Tseung Kwan O bayside!

You get the usual Deep Fried Chicken Chop and diced beef rice, the Bubble Tea Drinks, etc. There’s also a snazzle by having a grill BBQ brought right to your table! Oh, and the marinated pig intestines (haha, much yummier than it sounds) were really good too!

Great Taiwanese restaurant around the neighborhood!

Yakitori in Kowloon City

Somehow, there’s this fascination among Japanese of Kowloon Walled City. I guess the mix of triad, shady alleys, unlicensed doctors with secret cures, and smoke everywhere makes the walled City one of its kind in the world – uniquely Hong Kong!

Well, now the Walled City is no more. But this Japanese Yakitori Sake Bar is uniquely Hong Kong too! Just a small shop on one of the many cris crossing streets in Kowloon City, it doesn’t at all stand out from the other local shops beside it! But the foods are certainly Ginza worthy! And that’s Hong Kong, a whole mashpot of cultures!

Great cafe in the heart of Hong Kong

Cafe Poach has a rich history behind it… Rising out from 3rd Space in Sheung Wan and 風月無邊, this new collaboration brings together a beautiful cafe with beautiful food, right on the rooftop of a beautiful historical building in Mong Kok!

Its foods are definitely IG-able! I loved the Earl Grey Chocolate, the Terriyaki Meat Patty Bento with tea-soup rice is flavourful and light at the same time! The Pork Belly with Siraicha Mayo on toast is a great combination. And of course, the signature Pancakes! Absolutely loooove the melted mochi buried beneath an oozing ice-cream!

Of course there are queues! Sooo worth the wait though!

5.1 Golden week restaurants

Very often, the more successful a restaurant chain is, the bigger and more corporate it gets, only the bottom line is its only consideration. It’s harsher to its staff, and you will hardly expect it to speak up on any issues for fear of hurting its bottom-line.

Which is why this chain of restaurants including Morokok, Little Break and San Ka La are “gold”! Even as a chain, it still cares to voiceout on important issues!

Back to food though… Of course it’s good! 😊 Great vibe at this thai-moroccan inspired restaurant, and the dishes I had (Thai herbs tossed spaghetti, Crabmeat Hors de voures, Scallop Pizza on Thousand Island sauce) was real yum, all at a great price in Mong Kok!
